What Supplementing with Creatine Did For Me

In 2016, a friend of mine recommended that I start taking Creatine.

I was unfamiliar with it, ignorant really. Was this a steroid!? (LOL)… I had no idea that it would change my life.

Sounds like an exaggeration, but it’s not. Changing your performance, appearance and achieving your goals is life changing - Am I right?

I had been training for a handful of years prior, had lost some weight, and built a little bit of muscle. I trained “like a bodybuilder” and expected to look like one, too.

When my buddy recommended it, I told him I’d try whatever he thought would be good for me. I trusted him at baseline, but it also sounded like he had done his research on the topic.

Next time I saw him, he had already bought me a tub of it. I didn’t really have anything to lose and I had done a little bit of Googling on it after hearing that it might be bad for my kidneys or maybe it was a performance enhancing drug. Come to find out, it was known to be very safe and extremely effective, so I started a daily scoop in my pre-workout or in my post-workout shake and here’s what happened:

Somewhere between the left and right, I started taking creatine. Sure… MANY other things changed during those two photos, too, like:

  • Better diet all around

  • Adequate protein

  • Sleeping 7-9hrs per night on average

  • Very minimal alcohol consumption

  • Better stress management

  • LOTS of inner work

  • Consistent (3-6x/week) strength training and cardiovascular exercise

The majority of these things are necessary for a true transformation. And if you nail them all, creatine can be a big helper in making things happen just a little bit faster.

10 years later, I now consider myself a fitness professional. Can you believe that!? A PASSION that became a PROFESSION

I’m lucky enough to say that I have had over 20,000 people around the world do my programs… and one of the most common questions I’ve received over the years is:

“What supplements do you take?”

Answer: Creatine Monohydrate and Whey Protein. That’s literally it.

I have dove into much of the research on Creatine Monohydrate (it is actually the most studied supplement on the market) and here’s what I share with my clients the most…

Benefits of a Daily 5g Scoop of Creatine:

  • Increase in muscle mass

  • Increase is work capacity (amount of work done in x amount of time)

  • Increase in strength adaptations

  • Increase is power output

  • Increase in resistance to fatigue

  • Increase in recovery

  • Increase in muscle endurance

Why would I NOT recommend this supplement? There are very minimal side effects (some people may experience some cramping or bloating, although this is typically due to 1) taking too much at once or 2) not drinking enough water).

You know what’s even better? It’s ridiculously affordable. You can get 200 servings of it for as little as $25-30. That’s insanity.

Get on the Creatine Monohydrate train.

For shits and giggles, here is my most recent progress photo (still taking creatine daily):
